The "Giordano Dell'Amore" Foundation, established
by Cariplo Foundation, aims at driving the attention
and project activities of banks, other financial
institutions, financial authorities, and co-operation
agencies towards the frontiers of finance that are
critical for development but are still neglected
or misunderstood, both in the developing countries
and in the marginal sectors of developed economies.
These goals have been pursued for more than 30 years
through research, training programs, technical assistance,
and communication.
" Finance is a key element of economic development
and it matters if financial intermediaries operate
according to good management principles and are efficient.
This statement is valid both for intermediaries serving
large customers and for microfinance intermediaries.
For MFIs, financial innovation is a key component
of successful operations. The Foundation aims at
stimulating and strengthening the knowledge and skills
that are required to develop innovation capacity
and to broaden an effective supply of finance. This
applies to MFIs and to traditional banks that are
attracted by microfinance. In this view, the YoM
2005 represents an important occasion to share views
and experiences and to stimulate interest by a larger
share of the financial community."
