The Development Gateway Foundation builds the capacity
of microfinance institutions through its topic
page of microfinance. Microfinance on the Development
Gateway is an online community of more than 5000
professionals from 150 countries, exchanging
information, lessons and ideas on how to increase
the effectiveness, outreach and sustainability
of microfinance services. The Development Gateway
Foundation is a non-profit organization that
builds partnerships and information systems to
provide access to knowledge for development.
"Microcredit is a promising tool for development.
In 2004, the Development Gateway presented its annual
award to Grameen Bank/Village Phone, recognizing
how Grameen helps women entrepreneurs lift themselves
from poverty while bringing communications services
to isolated villages. We have a strategic focus on
building enterprise, operate a web portal dedicated
to the microfinance community, and will continue
in 2005 to help expand opportunities for micro-,
small, and midsized enterprises."
