The Deutsche Mikrofinanz Institut (DMI) is the main
sector development organisation in Germany. It
organises and provides all the resources necessary
for microlenders to start and develop their activities
in Germany.
The DMI is presently testing and adapting successful
international microlending methods in Germany . Five
regional microlenders were accredited to start with,
in cooperation with a bank, the DMI and the specifically
designed GLS Microfinance Fund. Through tight benchmarking
they will competing for lower drop-out rates and
lean credit processes. In the near future further
regions are to be added and various products and
methods are to be added. The German Microfinance
Institute (DMI) intends to make loans available country-wide
in the medium term.
"Our contribution to the Year of Microcredit:
to set up the first Microfinance Organisations in
Germany. We are very pleased with the support and
encouragement we are receiving from the international
movement.."
