International Year of Microcredit 2005

FINCA International
FINCA provides financial services to the world's poorest families so they can create their own jobs, raise household incomes, and improve their standard of living. We deliver these services through a global network of locally managed, self-supporting institutions. As a provider of financial services to low-income families, we offer small loans and a savings program to those turned down by traditional banks, believing that even the poor have a right to financial services. With these loans, families can invest in, and build, their own small businesses and their income-earning capacity.

Rupert Scofield
"Poverty is not a cruel inevitability but an unnecessary evil which can be banished by our combined will, resources and ingenuity. Microcredit provides the poor with the opportunity to work their way out of poverty. Unlike handouts, which only weaken the dignity of the recipient, microloans build discipline, responsibility and the self-confidence that comes from creating one's own business. At FINCA, we operate under a common assumption that people everywhere deserve the chance to make a better life for themselves and their children. Providing them with that chance through access to microcredit is our mission in life, and to the extent we succeed, we swell the ranks of the peacemakers."
