Global Partnerships is a Seattle-based nonprofit
that identifies, invests in and orchestrates business–like
poverty alleviation approaches in Central America.
A central component of each of these approaches is
microenterprise—businesses started by making
small loans to people in poverty.
"For over 13 years, I have witnessed firsthand
the extraordinary power of microfinance, a simple,
yet revolutionary approach that is not only impacting
millions of lives but – perhaps more importantly – is
changing our beliefs and ideas about alleviating
poverty. The success of this phenomenon
all over the world has me convinced that eliminating
extreme global poverty is within reach during
our lifetimes. It is a validation of microcredit's
power that the United Nations has dedicated an
entire year to raise awareness and consciousness
for this highly effective tool."
