Founded in 1980, TIAW celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2005. TIAW is one of the most important global voices for women. As a nonprofit, nonpartisan "umbrella" organization, TIAW unites, supports, and promotes professional women and their networks. TIAW's purpose is to foster the economic empowerment and advancement of women around the world by connecting, working together, sharing resources, and leveraging ideas.

Global TIAW programs move women out of poverty (TIAW Microenterprise), mentor young girls toward financial independence (TIAW Daughters), and campaign to get more women into corporate board positions (TIAW Women on Boards). TIAW's membership, located on six continents, is open to associations, individuals, corporations, and foundations.
