The Microcredit Summit Campaign is working to ensure
that 100 million of the world’s poorest
families, especially the women of those families,
are receiving credit for self-employment, and
other financial and business services by the
end of 2005. As of December 31, 2002, 2,572 microcredit
institutions have reported reaching 67.6 million
clients, 41.6 million of whom were among the
poorest when they took their first loan.
"The Microcredit Summit Campaign embraces
the 2005 International Year of Microcredit and the
opportunity it provides for achieving a breakthrough
in reaching the very poor with credit for self-employment
and other financial services."
