The Rural Finance Learning Centre is the information
gateway for capacity building tools and distance
learning training materials to support microfinance
for rural areas. It contains a database of resources
organised into topics, online self study lessons
and session guides for training programmes. Users
of the Learning Centre can suggest new resources,
take part in discussions and find out about training
opportunities and events related to rural finance;
the emphasis is on sharing experiences and providing
information about useful innovations. The Learning
Centre was launched by FAO, IFAD, GTZ and the
World Bank on 18 November 2004 in conjunction
with the UN International Year of Microcredit.
"The International Year is a contribution
to emphasizing the importance of the mechanisms
that help people to store money for when the
have got surpluses of it, for example savings,
and being able to borrow money when they need
it."
