Charles Konan Banny has held the post of Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) since 1990; he was appointed after holding the position of Special Advisor to his predecessor. He has also worked as a central banker at the Headquarters of BCEAO and as the Central Director of Research. He is also the Chairman of BCEAO Board of Directors, Chairman of WAMU Banking Commission, a member of WAMU Public Savings and Capital Markets Regional Council and member of the Board of Directors of the West African Development Bank (WADB).
